After Cooper's Choctaw & Chickasaw regiment captured the cabin did Opothleyahola's men withdraw ACROSS Bird Creek and continue fighting from the west bank? And did Cooper's men follow them across to continue the fight? Or was the battle after the cabin was captured fought entirely on land between the cabin and the east bank of Bird Creek? LOL There is a place here in OK, where the AK RIVER and the ILlINOIS come together--close to Tamaha, and the J.R. Richards was sunk there by Stand Watie and his men--that is some very interesting stuff. I included that in my book Fire Eyes, and wish I could have written even more in there about it. Also included Stand Watie in my short story, MEANT TO BE. Those were some interesting times and people, for sure. I really loved this article you posted, Troy. Yikes--gotta get off here--the storm is here.<br />CherylCheryl Piersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18116526340220274282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8762497227505790066.post-80471062905253686292012-04-12T12:32:54.810-07:002012-04-12T12:32:54.810-07:00Don't feel bad about that, Caroline- most peop...Don't feel bad about that, Caroline- most people are surprised to learn that the "Five Tribes" fought in the Civil War, and in uniform to boot! If all goes according to plan, my dissertation will be released as a book in a couple of years... this incident is discussed in the first part of the final chapter.Troy D.
